Coliseu Micaelense, E.M., S.A.
The show Vagina Monologues is composed of several short texts / monologues. Each of them deals with the female experience, addressing issues such as sex, prostitution, body image, love, rape, menstruation, female genital mutilation, masturbation, birth, orgasm, the various common names for the vagina or simply as a physical part of the body. feminine. A recurring theme throughout the play is the vagina as a female empowerment tool and the ultimate personification of individuality.
Every year, a new monologue is added to highlight a current issue that affects women around the world. In 2003, for example, Ensler, the author, wrote a new monologue called Under the Burqa, about the plight of women in Afghanistan under the Taliban. In 2004, Ensler wrote a monologue called They Beat the Girl Out of My Boy, this after interviewing a group of women whose gender identity differed from their assigned gender at birth.
Fun, raw and real stories that reveal a little more of the disconcerting female universe.
