Museum

The Coliseu Micaelense, on the occasion of its 90th anniversary, on May 10, 2007, opened a Museum Center with a permanent exhibition of its historical collection dating back to 1912.

Initially called Coliseu Avenida, the largest concert hall in the Azores has always played an important socio-cultural role in the city of Ponta Delgada and on the island of São Miguel, throughout the 20th century, with music, dance, theater, cinema, circus, dances, fairs, congresses and banquets.

With this space, located in the gallery on the top floor of the Coliseu’s concert hall, the aim is to preserve, publicize and enhance the memories of the Coliseu Micaelense throughout its history; recognize and highlight the entrepreneurial spirit that was behind the construction of this large property for the time and for the island; and, understand the socio-cultural importance of the activity carried out by the Coliseu Micaelense throughout the 20th century on the island of S. Miguel.
